DISCOVERY & RESEARCH

Overview: Inspired by healthcare providers' dedication during the Covid-19 Pandemic, we created an app to offer access to mental health support and resources, enhancing well-being in daily life.

User Surveys

Targeting healthcare professionals, we surveyed and interviewed them to identify challenges, coping strategies, and mental health concerns. This guided our app's design, providing valuable, ongoing support within their busy schedules.

User Interviews

User Participant #1

"I find myself sacrificing sleep and often skipping meals, with fluctuating eating and sleeping cycles becoming the norm…"

User Participant #2

"… The fear of societal judgment and the stigma around seeking therapy further compound this challenge. They've [my family] become my safe haven, understanding my struggles…"

User Participant #3

"…my role demands a constant facade of calm and 'perfection. My job revolves around extending boundless empathy to my patients, yet the irony lies in the fact that empathy rarely circles back…"

User Participant #3

IDEATION

The insights gained from these interviews and surveys played a crucial role in shaping my design process. They provided essential guidance for key decisions and directed the evolution of the comprehensive mental health care app.

User Journey

We carefully mapped out the user journey for someone seeking mental health support, guiding our user-centric design to ensure a seamless experience.

  • Competitive Analysis

I've studied Better Help, Talk Space, Ginger by Kaiser Permanente, and Medical Health Center by Hoag to inform our approach for developing the social studies resource.

  • Affinity Diagraming

Individually, we focused on themes and collectively streamlined our app's primary focus using dot voting.

  • Mind Map Concepts

In the mind map, I've organized features for each app service, creating a comprehensive list of functionalities and attributes.

  • Creative Matrix

In the creative matrix, we balanced daily and urgent usage scenarios, tailoring the app to diverse user needs.

DESIGN & PROTOTYPE

Crafting the mental health app was an empathy-driven journey. We used user insights to create a transformative platform that supports well-being through personalized features and a strong community.

Wireframes

Through thorough research and user insights, our wireframes offer seamless, curiosity-driven interactions. With optimized usability and unique branding, they embody our educational vision, inspiring students to explore diverse histories and cultures.

  • Low-Fidelity

Using insights from surveys, interviews, and ideation, I crafted a low-fidelity wireframe for our mental health app. By incorporating feedback and innovative ideas, I designed an initial interface, refining concepts to align with user needs and aspirations.

  • Mid-Fidelity

I improved the visual aspect of my wireframes with grey tones and placeholder text, mimicking future images and titles. This enhanced layout understanding and early user experience, conveying aesthetics and content placement for a more cohesive interface representation.

  • High-Fidelity

From low-fidelity wireframes, I advanced to high-fidelity versions, integrating images, refined colors, and text. This step brought the app's design to life, offering an authentic representation of its final look and user experience. This transition marked a significant stride in realizing our envisioned mental health care app.

  • Low-Fidelity

Using surveys, interviews, and brainstorming, I developed a low-fidelity wireframe for our mental health app. I then refined it into an interface that aligns with user needs and aspirations.

  • Mid-Fidelity

I improved wireframes with grey tones and placeholder text, simulating future content. This enhances layout understanding and early user experience, ensuring cohesive design and content placement.

  • High-Fidelity

I refined the design, added visuals, improved color schemes, and typography. This transformation elevated the app's aesthetics, reflecting its final appearance and user interaction, a significant step toward realizing our mental health care app concept.

TESTING

Gathering user feedback for the mental health app was crucial, helping refine features and services for a user-centered and impactful experience.

Usability Testing

Usability Testing

Usability testing for a mental health app is distinct, emphasizing user emotions, well-being, and sensitivity. Unlike conventional products, it gauges emotional engagement and the app's efficacy in addressing mental health needs, emphasizing safety and empathy.

User Participant #1

"…. It's a comprehensive tool that acknowledges the interconnectedness of physical health, nutrition, and mental well-being."

User Participant #2

"… I recognize the importance of clarifying how overall health significantly influences mental well-being too."

User Participant #3

"I feel the app leans more towards general health rather than mental health…. encapsulates my overall well-being, transcending a mere therapy session."
